How could we have not seen this? We walk up and down these steps several times a day.  Our guests have been up and down these steps dozens of times. They have been so kind to not mention the ugliness of all that splintery wood on our banister.  But now I think I understand the requests for the bandaids.

It was a combination of rough and splintered 2×4’s, some 2×2’s and pieces of scrap fence panel.

How a School Spanking Taught a Lesson of Injustice

I learned about injustice in elementary school.  Jumping out of my swing – I left the playground in the middle of recess to use the restroom.  A girl from my class was already in there – she was skipping recess.  Who skips RECESS?  I was stunned when she offered me the cigarette she was smoking. I casually declined – trying to be cool, I said something like, “no thanks, I just smoked a full pack this morning.”

Within a week of moving to our little cabin – we purchased six – one year old Buff Orpingtons and a coop.

We locked the hens in the coop and loaded it all on a trailer behind the Silverado – we were about 2 miles into a 10 mile drive back to the cabin  and it started storming. The hail was slamming us.  We pulled under a gas station awning for shelter.  A couple of other vehicles had sought cover under the same awning.  We got some strange looks as we pulled through far enough that the trailer pulling the coop & hens was protected but our truck was taking a beating. For the next 2.5 years we were eating eggs everyday in everything!  Sometime late last summer my great layers stopped producing eggs.  It was the dreaded menopause.  I guess hens peak early.

There are two sets of things we as parents keep for our children.  First, the items that actually belong to them, the items we have been storing.

Then there are the things that we hope they will find some sentimental value to be handed down to their children.  Like the handmade quilt from great grandma that was our wedding gift.

With all the downsizing going on and so many are trying to become minimalist, this seems to be a common problem.
